No vision yet, but Falk condition improving

June 22, 2010 – A retina specialist has told Vincent Falk “things are getting better.” The Marina City resident and documentary subject has been temporarily blind since a complication following eye surgery on May 24.

“He thinks it’s just a matter of time until I get my sight back,” said Falk on Monday. “He says he sees the optic nerve, which he didn’t see before. I just have to wait.”

Doctors are waiting for pressure in his left eye to equalize and relieve a buildup of fluid behind the retina. Falk was born with glaucoma in the left eye and is blind in the other.

On the Facebook page for the film Vincent: A Life In Color, director Jennifer Burns wrote on Monday, “Vince had a good appointment with his retina doctor today. It may still be several weeks before his sight returns, but it’s looking better!”

If Falk’s vision has not returned by his next appointment in mid-July, the specialist, says Falk, will consider performing another operation to remove fluid from behind the retina.
