26-Jul-10 – While some Chicago landmarks appear doomed in the new Transformers movie being filmed near the Chicago River this month, at least one building will walk away from the fight with a battle scar.
The Jewelers’ Building, a 40-story skyscraper built in 1926 and now known as 35 East Wacker Drive, will lose one of its four large turrets that rise from the corners of the first setback.
Much of Saturday’s planned exterior filming was canceled due to heavy rain – and under sunnier skies, filmmakers made up for lost time on Sunday. Scenes were shot on Wabash Avenue between Wacker Drive and Lake Street, and on Wacker between Wabash and State Street.
Wacker Drive re-opens on Monday but filming continues at 35 East Wacker Drive until Tuesday and then moves to Trump International Hotel & Tower. More filming is expected on Wacker next weekend.
