4-May-18 – Teamwork by two downtown police districts – and diners at Giordano’s – led to the arrest of a man suspected of robbing a 23-year-old woman on Rush Street.

Chicago police say Latroy Wiley (left) wrestled away the woman’s mobile phone as she walked near North Rush Street & East Superior Street at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Several witnesses who were dining at a nearby Giordano’s provided police with a detailed description of the robber, who was later seen running into the CTA Red Line Station at East Chicago Avenue & North State Street.

Officers in a neighboring police district learned of the robbery and raced to Red Line stations in the Loop to intercept the offender. When Wiley’s train pulled into the Jackson CTA Station, he was detained and later identified by the victim and a witness. Police say Wiley was carrying the victim’s phone when they arrested him.

Wiley, age 31, lives in the South Shore neighborhood. He was charged with one felony count of robbery and was in bond court on Thursday.
