Photos: Backfilling, dewatering, and other fun things to do when building a Riverwalk

15-Apr-16 – Steady, undramatic progress was made this week on the unfinished last three stretches of Chicago Riverwalk. West of Franklin Street, the Riverwalk room known as Boardwalk has been “de-watered” and crews are back-filling with crushed stone. Crews are largely working with concrete, rebar, and wooden forms, though some concrete slabs are in place. Concrete parts of the landscaping are also being installed.

(Below) Bob Segal captured this close-up view of dewatering for the Riverwalk. Relatively clean water is spilling into the Chicago River west of Franklin Street. The barge at left contains filters through which water is pumped from areas where it’s not wanted.
