Renaissance starts second phase of multi-million-dollar renovation

17-Dec-15 – A second round of renovation at Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel will create a new ballroom, new meeting space, and a terrace-top bar that overlooks the Chicago River. The 520-room, 40-suite hotel at Wacker Drive & State Street says the new space will be ready next March and cost $8 million.

The hotel spent at least $24 million on a new lobby and renovated guest rooms that were unveiled in April.

This time, they are adding 4,000 square feet of meeting space, a new 3,000 square foot ballroom for weddings and other special occasions, and expanding an existing ballroom from 4,000 to 5,000 square feet. The outdoor bar at the third-floor level will seat 160 people, serve food and drink, offer 14 local beer options, a variety of wines, and have fire pits.

Construction started in October. Renaissance is one of 19 brands owned by Marriott International.
