(Left) A Donzi powerboat with three 275-horsepower engines rests on its side last week at DuSable Harbor. This image was uploaded to social media on August 30. If you can believe the comments, the boat took on water because a drain plug on the bottom of the boat was not installed. Drain plugs are removed when the boat is on dry land to let excess water escape. Forgetting to put the plug back in is not uncommon. |
(Right) The boat, worth at least $100,000, was rescued by attaching large bags to each side and slowly filling them with air. Then a gas-powered pump went to work, bailing water from the Donzi before it was towed away. |
