21-Oct-24 – The City of Chicago will honor renowned architect Benjamin H. Marshall by designating East Lake Shore Drive as Honorary Benjamin Marshall Way during a ceremony on October 23.

The event, presided by 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins, will take place near the intersection of East Lake Shore Drive and North Michigan Avenue at 5:30 p.m.

Benjamin Marshall

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Marshall’s birth and his influential contributions to Chicago’s architectural identity. Marshall (left), who defined iconic buildings throughout the city, was vital in shaping the Gold Coast neighborhood and is known for landmarks such as The Drake Hotel and South Shore Cultural Center.

The street naming was the result of effort by the Benjamin Marshall Society to highlight Marshall’s role in the city’s cultural and urban development.

The event is open to the public.
