Levin responds to MCO articles: ‘Get a life’

March 14, 2012 – Although judicial candidate Ellis Levin has never responded to Marina City Online about recent articles critical of his career as a condo attorney, he did comment to Windy City Times, a website that serves the gay and lesbian community.

Ellis Levin In an interview published on Tuesday, Levin (left) said MCO “is run by dissidents at Marina City” and its editor, Steven Dahlman, “does not like the [Marina Towers condo] board.”

“He and several dissidents attempted several years ago to claim his website…was the official website for the condominium association, and I wouldn’t let them do it. They didn’t like what I did.”

Levin is probably referring to a claim MCO made in a 2008 promotional mailing that it is “the official source of information about Marina City.” On the advice of its attorney, Thomas D. Rosenwein, MCO added a disclaimer to the bottom of each page that it is not “sponsored by, endorsed by or affiliated with” the condominium association. No changes were made at the request of Levin or anyone else. Dahlman is the sole operator of the website.

“I wonder why this guy still hasn’t gotten a life,” says Levin, noting that he has not been the attorney for Marina Towers Condominium Association since 2010.

In the interview with Erica Demarest, Levin, who represented Chicago in the General Assembly from 1977 to 1995, says he was motivated to run for Circuit Court judge because there was an opening and “it felt right.”

“I’m surprised a lot of people still remember me. It’s kind of an unusual thing for a former legislator to be running for judge. I’m running on my record, what I stood for, and what I was able to accomplish.”
