Kinzie Hotel offering packages for urban explorers

The Alter Group 8-Jan-14 – A themed package at the new Kinzie Hotel opening next month on Kinzie Street will equip guests with a GoPro video camera, bicycle, helmet, and a map of Chicago.

The “Point Of View” package, announced on Wednesday, includes overnight accommodations but a picnic basket and “post-adventure massage” are optional.

As River North becomes increasingly competitive for upscale hotels, Kinzie Hotel will try to stand out as the city’s most “Chicago-centric” hotel.

Another package will include a $100 credit at any of three nearby restaurants – Keefer’s, Kinzie Chophouse, and Tortoise Club. A third package will include cocktails at the hotel’s Double Cross Lounge, passes to The Underground, and a gift certificate for Rockit Bar & Grill.

General manager Dennis Igoe says the offers represent the hotel’s primary theme of “urban exploration” in commemoration of early Chicagoan John Kinzie, for whom Kinzie Street is named.

“Our guest packages live up to Kinzie’s intrepid reputation,” said Igoe (right) in a news release, “which is adventurous, daring, and a bit mercurial.”

The 215-room hotel replaces the Amalfi, which was sold in December 2012 to The Harp Group, a Chicago-based real estate investment and development company.
