(Photo from Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse.) 28-Apr-14 – An issue with a door sweep was enough to fail a health inspection at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse on North Michigan Avenue last week. A door sweep is the weatherproofing strip that creates a seal between the bottom of a door and the floor. It is not clear which door had the faulty sweep but according to a spokesperson, the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, at which Jordan’s restaurant is located, has already replaced it.
The Chicago Department of Public Health inspected the restaurant on April 21. It was a “canvass” inspection, done at a frequency consistent with the potential risk to public health. Michael Jordan“s Steakhouse is considered by the city to be the highest of three risk levels and has been inspected once per year since it opened in 2011. While it failed its first inspection on August 2, 2011, it passed a re-inspection three days later and was issued a license to operate. It passed canvass inspections in 2012 and 2013. The restaurant on the mezzanine level of the InterContinental cost about $4.2 million to build but in its first two months, generated about $1.6 million for the hotel“s owner, Strategic Hotels & Resorts.
