29-Sep-22 – Neighbors of a River North hotel that was fined by the city following a public nuisance complaint have convinced their alderman to reject a new hotel proposed for the lot next door. 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly says he rejected a plan for a Sonder boutique hotel after neighbors of Eurostars Magnificent Mile, 660 North State Street, expressed concerns over the area’s history of violence and quality-of-life crimes.
“Given their experience and history of public nuisance at the adjacent Eurostars hotel, the consensus among residents is vehement opposition to a new hotel being built on the vacant lot,” said Reilly in a letter to 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney, chairman of the city’s Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Buildings Standards. Eurostars has been the subject of disciplinary hearings with the city over alleged criminal activity, and in September 2021, the hotel’s owner, Golden Mile Hotels, LLC, was fined $10,000.
