Goldberg son to lecture on Marina City architect

13-Mar-09 – A lecture by the son of Bertrand Goldberg will be part of a program in April celebrating the work of the Marina City architect.

Geoffrey Goldberg, himself a noted architect, will speak on April 2 at Maxim’s de Paris, a prestigious restaurant once owned by his mother, Nancy Goldberg (1922-1996).

Located in the basement of Astor Tower, a high-rise building designed by Bertrand Goldberg (1913-1997) in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, Maxim’s was a replica of a famous Parisian restaurant, Café de Paris.

Nancy Goldberg managed the restaurant from 1963 to 1982. It is now The Nancy Goldberg International Center, operated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs as a facility for private events.

The lecture is sponsored by the Society of Architectural Historians, a not-for-profit organization that promotes the study and preservation of architecture.

Geoffrey will discuss his father’s work and innovative designs that, says the SAH, “are so important to Chicago’s rich architectural heritage.”

Following the lecture, tours will be given of apartments at Astor Tower.

Goldberg is an architect with offices in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. He worked for his father’s architectural firm full time from 1985 to 1990. In 2007, he and his wife, Lynne Remington, won a Divine Detail Award from AIA Chicago. It was for a residential interior at House Dayton in Chicago. He won another AIA award that year for interior architecture.

When:Thursday, April 2, 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Reception at 5:30, lecture at 6:00, and tours at 7:00.
