March 23, 2014 – Ten lucky entrepreneurs could win a free seat at 1871 in a contest announced last week by the City of Chicago.

The Chicago College Startup Competition will try to lure to the 50,000 square foot business incubator at Merchandise Mart entrepreneurs who started their businesses while in college.

“Collegiate businesses are in a unique position to be successful,” says 1871 CEO Howard Tullman, “and we believe that the resources that are available at 1871 will greatly help these young startups on their path.”

Selecting the winners will be a panel of businesses currently located at 1871, along with members of “ThinkChicago,” a program started by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2011 to help attract young workers to Chicago’s technology companies. Emanuel has set a goal of 40,000 tech jobs in Chicago by 2020.
