5-Sep-21 – Eighteen months after the previous staff changes, Chicago Police Department has announced a new commander of the Near North police district.

Hein replaces Jill Stevens, who is now Deputy Chief of Area 3. Daniel O’Shea, who before Stevens had also been promoted from 18th district commander to Deputy Chief of Area 3, is now Deputy Chief of the Criminal Networks Group.
Superintendent David Brown announced the promotions on September 1. He says the changes follow recent retirements within the department’s executive ranks.
“These leaders represent the highest levels of professionalism and commitment, and I am excited about the paths they will forge in their new positions,” said Brown. “I have the utmost confidence in them as they continue working to make Chicago a safer city.”
