28-Apr-18 – One count of attempted carjacking has been filed against a man whose crime spree ended in the lobby of a Gold Coast condominium.

Earrious Moore 23-year-old Earrious Moore (left) is accused of attempting to hijack a Mercedes-Benz sedan at gunpoint on Thursday along North Lake Shore Drive.

According to a criminal complaint, Moore fired the gun, shooting an 84-year-old man in the shoulder. The man was inside the car as it was stopped in traffic.

Moore then ran away but was captured by police in the lobby of 1440 North Lake Shore Drive. He was in possession of a 40-caliber handgun with extended magazine. According to police, Moore admitted to trying to hijack the Mercedes.

The attempted carjacking charge is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, according to the United States Attorney’s Office. Moore will be in a federal courtroom on Monday.

“Citizens of Chicago and visitors to our city must be able to live their lives without fear of violent attacks,” said John Lausch, Jr. (right), U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. “Our message to would-be carjackers and those using guns to commit crimes is simple – committing a senseless act of violence like carjacking will earn you a home in federal prison for a long time.” John Lausch Jr.

Moore is also suspected of shooting a motorist in the 1000 block of North State Street and carjacking three other vehicles. Both shooting victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment and their conditions have stabilized, according to Chicago police.

Arrest records show that Moore, who lives in the North Lawndale neighborhood west of the Loop, has previously been charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property.
