BIN 36 working to correct health department violation 24-Jun-08 – An infestation of fruit flies in the food preparation area has led to the temporary closing of BIN 36. The Marina City restaurant was ordered closed on Monday by the Chicago Department of Public Health. The flies were discovered by Public Health Department inspectors. It is considered a “critical violation” of the City Health Code that can create an immediate health hazard. According to CDPH spokesperson Tim Hadac, BIN 36 must correct the violation, then contact the Public Health Department to schedule another inspection. If they pass the inspection, the business can re-open. According to department records, BIN 36 was previously inspected on April 27, 2007. They passed and their food business license was in good standing. Representatives of BIN 36 will appear at an administrative hearing on July 24 and pay a fine expected to be $500. Amano Italian Trattoria, located below BIN 36 and owned by the same people, is still open. A manager there said on Monday that repair work is being done upstairs in response to the action by the health department. |
