FLOW/Im Fluss is a modern artwork inspired by the Chicago River and the Elbe in Hamburg, Germany, a sister city of Chicago. Video will be projected onto water, according to the project’s sponsor, Chicago Loop Alliance, “inviting viewers to immerse themselves into the flow of data collected from both rivers.” At the same time, there will be a live performance of Traces, composed by German musician Birgit Ulher for “trumpet, radio, speaker, objects, and tape feeds.” Luftwerk, a group that produced the light and sound installation Luminous Field at Millennium Park in 2012, will create FLOW/Im Fluss. The work will be on display from 5 p.m. to midnight, September 17-20, in Couch Place Alley. Luftwerk has been working on the project for more than a year with Goethe-Institut Chicago, which organizes and supports events celebrating the culture of Germany. Chicago Loop Alliance got involved with the project earlier this year. (Above) A Chicago Loop Alliance event in Couch Place Alley on June 5. Images obtained from CLA. |
