2-Feb-15 – Have an idea to turn a downtown alley into an art exhibition? The Chicago Loop Alliance is looking for you.

The non-profit organization, tasked with creating urban experiences that attract people and investment to the Loop, announced on Monday an open call for architects, carpenters, curators, designers, fashion designers, filmmakers, muralists, photographers, sculptors, sound artists, urban artists, and other creative thinkers.

They are needed for this year’s series of “innovative public space activations“ the alliance calls Activate.

The series, says the alliance, “brings artists and the public together for an evening of exploration, interaction, and celebration of the arts in alleys throughout the Loop.”

More than 140 artists were utilized last year. The seven events they created, says CLA, attracted about 14,400 people who then spent $393,120 at downtown businesses.

Chicago artists have until March 27 to submit application materials, which will be reviewed by a committee comprised of “leaders in Chicago’s creative community.”

CLA says it will have one Activate event every month from May through October but specific dates have not yet been announced.
