2-Jan-17 – The city’s ten millionth trip on a rented Divvy bicycle has been taken. Chicago Department of Transportation says the trip, which happened at about 8:25 on Monday evening, is a “major milestone” for the bike share system.
Only two other cities with Divvy bikes, Washington, D.C., and New York, have logged more than ten million rides.
Started on June 28, 2013, there are now 580 Divvy stations, with a total of 5,800 bicycles, in Chicago, Evanston, and Oak Park.
“Reaching ten million trips in just three-and-a-half years is a testament to the growing popularity of biking in Chicago,” says CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld.
More than 3.5 million of those trips were taken last year, a 14 percent increase from 2015.
The ten millionth rider will be given a free year of membership and three gift memberships.

Lake View grandmother took ten millionth trip
The taker of the ten millionth Divvy bicycle trip in Chicago was a 64-year-old Lake View woman identified by Divvy as “Priscilla B.” Divvy did not release her last name but said Priscilla took the winning trip on her way home after visiting her grandson.

“I was just thinking how much better my life is here because of Divvy,” said Priscilla (left). “You kind of see the world differently. I love the way the bikes are built, so your head is up.” |
Since buying a Divvy membership in May 2014, Priscilla has taken about 350 trips. She will receive from Divvy an extra year of membership and three additional memberships she may give as gifts.
